PALAZZO CARIGNANO (and MUSEO NAZIONALE DEL RISORGIMENTO), GLI APPARTAMENTI DEI PRINCIPI DI CARIGNANO

Torino vista dagli americani (articolo in inglese)

4, 5. PALAZZO CARIGNANO (and MUSEO NAZIONALE DEL RISORGIMENTO), GLI APPARTAMENTI DEI PRINCIPI DI CARIGNANO

Turin was a key city for Italy’s 19th-century unification movement and became the country’s first capital, so it’s not surprising you’ll find the national museum commemorating the creation of the modern Italian state here.

Housed in the Palazzo Carignano, a 17th-century Baroque beauty whose architect Guarino Guarini looked to Bernini’s sketches for the Louvre when designing it, this princely palace is also where the first Italian parliament convened.

There are 30 rooms to visit with suggested itineraries of varying length, along with films highlighting the causes, events and democratic movements from the French Revolution on that led to unification.

You get a two-fer here—befitting the palazzo’s regal past, there’s also a princely dwelling, the APPARTAMENTI DEI PRINCIPI DI CARIGNANO to explore with its noteworthy gilded boiseries, mirrored rooms and elaborate frescoes.
